Mahony and KCET

Share

The basic question raised by the difference in perceptions of Mahony and KCET as to the meaning of the “guidelines” they have agreed upon is: Does not KCET owe us all a statement of public policy concerning the support of activist causes and the viewing of propaganda films? When contributors’ donations and public funds are used to oppose the death penalty (KQED) or support animal rights or gay rights, either directly or by showing propaganda-type documentaries, does it not violate public trust? Public television is a national treasure for music, drama, news, debate and public discussion of issues. What right does some editorial team at KCET have to follow their personal agendas to become activists with our media? How many “Stop the Church” incidents does it take to build support for a successful Jesse Helms-type attack on this great institution? Let us hear a clear statement of public policy from KCET on this issue.
