TOKYO — Mitsubishi Electric Corp., a major Japanese electronics maker, said this week that it has developed the world’s fastest passenger elevator, beating its own previous record by 495 feet a minute.
Mitsubishi’s new elevator moves at speeds up to 2,475 feet a minute, the company said in a statement. That works out to about 28 m.p.h.
The previous fastest passenger elevator moves at 1,980 feet a minute and is installed in a 60-story building in Tokyo, it said.
The new elevator will be installed in the Yokohama Landmark Tower, a 977-foot, 70-story building that will be Japan’s tallest, Mitsubishi said.
