ACLU Action: Controversial radio personality Howard Stern got some support Thursday when the American Civil Liberties Union protested the record-breaking $105,000 fine imposed by the FCC against Los Angeles radio station KLSX-FM, which broadcasts Stern’s show. The FCC fined the station for airing indecent material on several Stern shows in late 1991. The ACLU argues that the standard for indecent broadcasting is “unconstitutionally vague as applied in this case.” The group denounced the FCC’s concept of decency in broadcasting as based almost exclusively on subjective standards of personal taste.
