Folic Acid Seen to Thwart Spina Bifida

LONDON —
The British government Thursday advised women planning to become pregnant to take more folic acid to reduce the risk of having a child with spina bifida.
Women who have already given birth to a child with the disease should be especially careful to increase their intake of folic acid, Britain’s chief medical officer, Dr. Kenneth Calman, told reporters.
