From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Robert Chambers, serving a term for manslaughter in the “preppy killer” case, was denied parole, authorities in Albany, N.Y., said. Chambers, 25, is serving five to 15 years for the 1986 strangulation of 18-year-old Jennifer Levin in New York City’s Central Park. The three-member parole board that denied Chambers’ request cited the seriousness of the killing and Chambers’ prison record, which includes charges of assault, smuggling, drug use and possession of a weapon, a spokesman said.
