Nine arts organizations in Orange County will divvy up more than $100,000 in Christmas bonuses courtesy of the Leo Freedman Foundation, which announced its second annual round of Yuletide arts grants on Friday. Much of the money has been earmarked for outreach and education programs.

The Orange County Philharmonic Society was awarded $22,257.50, the largest single grant, for outreach and education programs in Anaheim, including Disneyland Band concerts for elementary school students that the society will sponsor at the Celebrity Theatre in February.

The Freedman foundation was established by Leo Freedman, an arts patron and Anaheim real estate developer whose lucrative ventures included the Melodyland Theater and the Freedman Forum theater. Freedman died in 1989; the foundation became active last year when it gave nearly $1 million to 12 groups in the county two days after Christmas.

Earlier this year, the foundation announced a total of $1.35 million in grants to three local organizations. The following groups received grants on Friday:

* Opera Pacific, $15,000 to support performances by its Overture Company outreach troupe in Anaheim.

* The UC Irvine School of Fine Arts, $15,000 for a scholarship for a first-year graduate student, to be chosen by the university. The recipient should be an Orange County county resident, and preference will be given to those living in Anaheim.

* The Orange County High School for the Arts, $10,000 for one-year scholarships for four students, to be chosen by the school. Again, recipients should be county residents, and preference will be given to those living in Anaheim.

* The Pacific Symphony, $10,000 to support live broadcasts on KUSC-FM (91.5). (The foundation gave the orchestra $150,000 in June for its 1992-93 season.)

* Ballet Pacifica, $10,000 for outreach programs in Anaheim schools and community theaters.

* The Master Chorale of Orange County, $10,000 for outreach programs in Anaheim schools.

* The Buena Park Fine Arts Commission, $10,000 for a summer concert series in Boisseranc Park and at the city’s Community Recreation Center.

* The Anaheim Arts Council, $7,500 to fund a street fair in Anaheim and to support performances at the Celebrity Theatre by Anaheim artists, all in connection with the 1993 Imagination Celebration, a countywide educational art festival for children.

The gifts bring the total amount awarded by the foundation in 1992 to $626,757.50. Foundation trustees have said they hope to award at least $500,000 annually.

In addition to the June grant to Pacific Symphony, the foundation’s earlier grants this year included $1 million, to be paid over six years, to the Bowers Museum.

In September, the foundation awarded $200,000 to the Orange County Performing Arts Center for its 1993-94 ballet series and next year’s Imagination Celebration, which the center co-sponsors with the Orange County Department of Education.
