CMS Enhancements Considering Partnership: CMS Enhancements Inc. in Irvine confirms that it is holding talks about a possible partnership with Microware Distributors Inc., a computer distribution company based in Beaverton, Ore.

A spokeswoman for CMS said that Jim Farooquee, chief executive of CMS, has met with Microware officials. She would not comment further.

Pat Terrell, chairman of Microware, also confirmed having spoken with CMS as well as a number of others about possible partnerships to strengthen Microware.

“There has been a wild speculation about who or when something will happen, but right now there is only a dialogue.” Microware, a privately held company, reported revenue of $288 million for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30. A majority of the company is owned by Terrell, chairman, and his brother Rick, who recently resigned as president.

CMS has been struggling to bounce back from a disastrous move into computer systems sales and has been focusing on its core business of making and distributing enhancements for personal computers. The company reported a slim profit of $51,000 on revenue of $20.3 million for its fiscal quarter ended Sept. 30, contrasted with a loss of $894,000 on revenue of $29.8 million for the same period a year earlier.
