SIMI VALLEY : Bids Sought for Community Center

Share

The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is seeking bids to build a community center with a full-size basketball gymnasium in Simi Valley, district officials said.

The 26,500-square-foot center is to be built on a 1 1/2-acre site at Rancho Susana Community Park on Los Angeles Avenue just west of Stearns Street. The masonry block building will house the gym, a multipurpose room, a dance room, a recreation room, locker rooms and kitchen and storage areas.

The center, which is expected to cost almost $3 million, will be financed by developer fees and other park district revenue, said Don Hunt, the district’s assistant general manager.

Bid proposal packages have been sent to contractors in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Bids must be submitted by Jan. 21. District officials hope to begin construction in early spring and open the center in April, 1994.

The district serves 113 square miles in southeast Ventura County, including Simi Valley and nearby unincorporated areas.
