From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Mayor David N. Dinkins heard a plaintive, angry cry when he arrived at a church overflowing with mourners for the revered grade school principal killed by gunfire while trying to find a troubled pupil. “Do something about Red Hook!” people yelled to Dinkins, referring to the crime-ridden Brooklyn area where Patrick Daly was killed. “Let us remember why we’re here,” he replied. The mayor led the mourners at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Staten Island, across New York Harbor from Red Hook. About 500 people, including Daly’s wife, twin daughters and son, jammed the small church while at least 1,000 more people stood outside.
