PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Would Labor Agreement Send Greene Elsewhere?

Share

Linebacker Kevin Greene, who probably will draw much free-agent action next spring if the tentative labor agreement is implemented, refused to speculate on his future, except to express his happiness with the situation.

“It’s about time,” Greene said about the prospect of a new collective bargaining agreement after a five-year stalemate.

But Greene, an eight-year veteran who leads the team with nine sacks, had no comment on his entrance into the free-agent market or the possibility of his going to a team whose defensive system better suits his talents.

Greene, whose 1992 salary is about $900,000, had his most success as a blitzing linebacker in a 3-4 defense, but Coach Chuck Knox is using a four-man line scheme to highlight No. 1 pick Sean Gilbert at defensive tackle.

The Rams were shut out of the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season--the only two times they have not placed a player on the all-star roster.

For the third and presumably last time this season, the Rams waived defensive end Jim Skow to make room for the activation of cornerback Courtney Griffin from the practice squad for Sunday’s season finale against Atlanta at Anaheim Stadium.

The Rams had released Skow and picked him up off waivers twice, most recently three weeks ago. Skow has started the last two games at right defensive end.
