Beverly Hills : Fountain, Pond Repair Set

Share

About 200 koi fish have been moved from ponds at Will Rogers Memorial Park on Sunset Boulevard to Greystone Park in preparation for $65,000 in repairs at Rogers Park.

The fountain was turned off and the ponds were drained last week so work could begin to repair leaks in the ponds, said Steve Miller, the city’s acting director of recreation and parks.

The fountain and pond system is more than 60 years old, Miller said. The parks department also plans to install a recirculating pump and filtration system to recycle water instead of letting it pour into the storm drain.

Renovating the park’s water system has become more urgent as the cost of water has soared and the drought has continued. Water to the fountain makes up nearly $5,000 of the park’s $8,000 annual water bill, according to city estimates.
