Xircom Inc., a Calabasas maker of adapters that link personal computers with other networks, named Jerry N. Ulrich as chief financial officer. Ulrich, 38, replaces Wallace B. Jones, who is retiring to pursue other interests.

Ulrich joined Xircom as vice president of finance in March when the company had its initial public stock offering. He also held posts at the accounting firm Arthur Young & Co. and Adaptec Inc., a manufacturer of hard-disk controllers.
