Investment in Foreign Stocks Soars: U.S. investment in foreign stocks jumped 150% in the third quarter as the pound’s plunge made British issues more attractive, the Securities Industry Assn. said. U.S. investors bought foreign stocks worth $9 billion in the third quarter of 1992, against only $3.6 billion in the second quarter, said David Strongin, assistant vice president of research at New York-based SIA. The record quarterly investment, set in the second quarter of 1991, stands at $9.4 billion. U.S. purchases of British stocks in the third quarter were about $4.5 billion, half of the total.
