Resale of Seized Guns by Cities

Your well-known antipathy to handguns has led you to take a position regarding their resale that is completely illogical. The only possible logical basis for your position would be if it somehow resulted in fewer guns in circulation. Is there any chance at all of such a result?

Presumably the police departments involved would control these sales at least as well as present licensed gun dealers. This means that any prospective buyer could equally well buy from a dealer. Since there is no shortage of gun manufacturing capability in the United States, your position has no potential for reducing the number of guns in circulation.
