Resale of Seized Guns by Cities

Share

I must take exception to your editorial (Dec. 28) about police departments’ sale of confiscated weapons.

It is surprising to see The Times fall for the pathetic argument that more gun sales cause more fatalities. With the level of gun saturation in the U.S. today, this is simply not the case. Furthermore, the auctions by police departments will be only of “expensive” or “collectible” guns, so “mass market” buyers will more likely look to your sports section ads for bargains.

Why not let the city governments and collectors both get some benefit from this confiscated inventory, rather than destroy them to no gain?
