Two men were arrested Saturday after they were overheard discussing plans for a drug deal on cellular telephones.

A tipster called police at 2:40 p.m., saying he was listening to a police scanner when he picked up a cellular phone conversation during which two people discussed preparations for a drug deal later that afternoon, said Lt. Bob Burnett.

The tipster heard the men saying they would meet in a parking lot at Edwards Street and Trask Avenue at 3:15 p.m., police said.

At the appointed hour, police officers witnessed the apparent drug transaction, Burnett said. The officers stopped the men and found one in possession of about half a pound of marijuana, Burnett said.

Jeff Money, 21, of Fountain Valley was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale. A second man, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant.

Police do not know the name of the tipster, Burnett said. Burnett added that it is a federal offense to monitor cellular telephone calls.
