Top-ranked Duke nearly suffered its first loss in 22 games Monday night, but the Blue Devils outscored No. 11 Oklahoma 14-10 in overtime to come out with an 88-84 victory at Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils (9-0) extended their home-court winning streak over non-Atlantic Coast Conference schools to 77 games--but just barely.

Oklahoma’s Jeff Webster tied the score at 76-76 with 4:21 left in overtime, but that was Oklahoma’s last basket for the next three minutes. The Sooners (10-2) repeatedly rushed their shots and fired up off-balance jumpers from far outside the three-point line.

Webster scored 25 for Oklahoma, and Hamilton got 17 of his 21 points in the closing 25 minutes.

No. 6 North Carolina 98, Cornell 60--The Tar Heels, playing without leading rebounder George Lynch, had little trouble defeating the Big Red at Chapel Hill, N.C. Lynch was bench because he showed up late for the game. He blamed it on a dead battery.

Derrick Phelps picked up the slack, scoring 16 points, picking off seven steals and accounting for six assists.

Donald Williams added 16 points for the Tar Heels (10-1). Cornell (4-4) shot 41%.

No. 7 Seton Hall 72, No. 19 Connecticut 69--Trailing by nine points with eight minutes to play, Seton Hall (12-1, 2-0) limited Connecticut (6-2, 1-1) to four baskets down the stretch and rallied for its ninth consecutive victory in a Big East game at East Rutherford, N.J.

No. 8 Iowa 80, Drake 65--Iowa was looking for a test before its Big Ten opener, and it got one from Drake at Des Moines, Iowa.

Drake stayed close until the final three minutes, but Iowa used its strong inside play and sharp free-throw shooting down the stretch. It was the closest call of the season for the Hawkeyes (11-0), who open conference play at No. 5 Indiana on Wednesday.

Acie Earl scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked eight shots for Iowa. Drake fell to 4-3.

No. 13 Arkansas 72, Southern Methodist 53--Scotty Thurman scored 24 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Arkansas (9-1) over SMU (5-4) at Dallas.

The Mustangs missed their last 24 shots from the field.

No. 16 Cincinnati 79, Tennessee 58--The Bearcats used every press and half-court trap in their playbook to once again muffle one of the country’s most dangerous shooters, the Volunteers’ Allan Houston, who wound up with 16 points at Cincinnati.
