IRS Won’t Raise Mileage Deduction: The Internal Revenue Service will maintain the national deduction for business driving expenses at 28 cents a mile for 1993, the same as in 1992, Runzheimer International said. This is the first time since 1984 that the rate has not been changed from year to year, said the Rochester, Wis., travel consultant firm, which developed the standard for the IRS. In all other cases during the decade, the rate increased from 0.5 to 1.5 cents a mile each year, Runzheimer said. “A stable rate reflects a low-inflation economy and no significant increase in annual ownership and operating costs for the typical vehicle driven by the American public,” said Lee Czarapata, vice president of Runzheimer’s transportation division.
