Stephen Harvey; Associate Curator at N.Y. Museum of Modern Art

Stephen Harvey, 43, associate curator of film at New York’s Museum of Modern Art who staged comprehensive retrospectives of such film artists as Vincente Minnelli, Vittorio DeSica and Joseph L. Mankiewicz. A curator at the museum since 1972, Harvey also wrote essays and critical commentary for newspapers, Film Comment and other publications. He was a film critic for Inquiry magazine and a theater critic for The Nation. He wrote a book, “Directed by Vincente Minnelli,” published in 1990 by Harper-Collins, that is widely considered the definitive study of Minnelli and the MGM studio system of his time. His retrospective on director Michael Curtiz currently is on exhibit at the museum. In New York City on Friday of the complications of AIDS.
