CULTURE WATCH : Moving Up--or Out--in Business

A Wilton, Conn., relocation firm says it can predict exactly who is going places in business.

According to Harvey Auger, president of PHH Homequity, which claims to be the world’s largest relocation company, “going places” means being transferred by one’s company to anywhere in the United States or the world.

Auger offers this profile of a typical transferee:

Male, 38.5 years old, married with two children whose ages average 11.3 years, and his family income is $62,201. He has been in middle management with his company for 11.3 years, most often in sales and marketing.

He already has been moved three times in his career, at 4.4-year intervals, and has owned 3.5 houses.

But the he may be a she. The transfers of women now total 16% of employee moves.
