The City Council on Monday unanimously approved a pilot green-waste program to begin this spring.
Rancho-area residents will be asked to place weeds, tree and lawn trimmings in separate curbside containers for collection the city’s two trash haulers, BFI and La Canada Disposal.
Green-waste collecting will occur over three to six months between Crown Avenue and Viro Road, and from Foothill Boulevard into the hills, at no cost to residents.
The city will decide whether to extend the program throughout La Canada Flintridge, public works assistant Mindy Jacobs said.
