City Seeking Bids on Park Project

The City Council on Tuesday agreed to call for bids on an estimated $200,000 project that will launch improvements at Deukmejian Wilderness Park, a 702-acre preserve north of Markridge Road and New York Avenue in La Crescenta.

The city is seeking a contractor to excavate around the foundation of a historic stone barn on the site, rebuild the roof and provide seismic reinforcement of the structure, built in 1911. The project is the first phase of a proposed $9-million development of the recreation area and restoration of historic buildings on the site, bought by the city in 1989.

Work on the barn is expected to begin in March and take three to six months, said Nello Iacono, director of parks, recreation and community services.
