Modest Recovery Forecast for Manufacturers: Most U.S. manufacturing sectors can expect a modest recovery this year, but military-related industries will be severely hurt by continuing defense-spending cuts, according to the Commerce Department’s annual forecast of winners and losers in U.S. business. “Overall, industry forecasts indicate a broad-based but moderate recovery,” said Commerce Undersecretary Timothy J. Hauser. Pacing the recovery, Hauser said, will be strong growth in computers, semiconductors and durable goods including automobiles.
