LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Dixon Urges Service, Pay Cuts to Balance Budget

Share

Facing a budget shortfall as large as $1 billion in the coming fiscal year, Chief Administrative Officer Richard B. Dixon called Thursday for a 10% reduction in all county services and an 8.25% reduction in employee salaries and benefits.

The recommendations came in a letter to the Board of Supervisors, which is scheduled to discuss the issue at its Tuesday meeting. Dixon also called for labor-management talks on the budget crisis.

In a related matter, board Chairman Ed Edelman called a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors to discuss how to fund Los Angeles County’s 20 probation camps for juvenile offenders. The camps face imminent closure because of the county’s fiscal crisis.

Edelman ordered the meeting for Monday at 11 a.m. in Conference Room 864A of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration. State and federal officials will also attend.
