Women’s Work
Lord knows I am thrilled to see any woman, in this case the excellent Beth Sullivan, profiled for her contribution to the television industry, but please don’t diminish those of us who have been at it a long time by incorrect information (“The Medicine Woman,” Dec. 31).
The statement in dispute is “. . . a woman has never single-handedly created and executive-produced a network drama for prime-time television.” In 1977 I did just that. The show I created was “Mulligan’s Stew.” We aired a pilot, which drew a 40 share and played during the ‘77-78 season.
Our unfortunate demise came when the powers that be decided to move our 8 p.m. family show to 9, sandwiching us between “MASH” and “Three’s Company.” Ah well, here’s to those who came before us and those who will follow.
