Jurisprudence
Syracuse senior guard Michael Edwards was suspended indefinitely from the team after being charged with using a hammer to smash out the windows of a bar manager’s truck.
Edwards, 22, was charged with felony criminal mischief. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to four years in jail.
Five other Syracuse basketball players were present, but none were charged. Redshirted sophomore Anthony Harris lost three teeth in the incident.
Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim, while not excusing the violence, said Edwards and his teammates reacted with emotion after Harris got hurt.
“I can understand what he did, why he did it, but that still doesn’t make it acceptable and that’s why I have to take this action at this time,” Boeheim said at a news conference announcing the suspension.
