Tandy to Spin Off Manufacturing: Tandy Corp. said it plans to spin off its manufacturing operations and reorganize its retailing operations to place greater emphasis on growth at its two superstore retailing concepts. Tandy said the moves will cost $67.5 million, before taxes, expenses that will be taken during the fourth quarter. The charges include $47.5 million to close 100 unprofitable Tandy name-brand retail outlets and expand its Computer City and Incredible Universe retail chains, and $20 million for its proposed spinoff of TE Electronics. Tandy, which has a total of 413 name-brand stores, also operates the flagship 7,000-store Radio Shack electronics chain.
