HUNTINGTON BEACH : Police Will Buy 5 Beach Patrol Vehicles
The Police Department received approval last week to buy five new four-wheel All-Terrain Vehicles to patrol the beach.
The new vehicles will replace three-wheel vehicles that were purchased in 1985 but now are rusty, unserviceable and unsafe, Capt. Barry Price said.
Police agreed to pay for the new vehicles by forgoing the purchase of a black and white patrol car previously approved in the budget.
Cost of the new ATVs is $15,435.
The ATVs are needed to maneuver on soft beach sand, Price said. They are put to their heaviest use in the busy summer months, he said.
