Pasadena : School Sale Panel Formed

Faced with an opportunity to sell two old school sites, the Board of Education has appointed a seven-member citizens advisory committee to help the school district dispose of the properties.

The board rejected attempts Tuesday by Tim Price, president of Daisy Villa Neighborhood Assn., to add three more members.

“We’re not inclined to increase the size of the committee with people who have already made their mind up,” board President Elbie Hickambottom said.

The neighborhood group has fought district plans to sell a former continuation high school in their neighborhood at 3081 Foothill Blvd. to Pasadena City College as a new skills center.

In December, the board voted unanimously to sell the property to a public institution. College President Jack Scott has indicated that the college has $4 million available to buy the property.

Another district property will become vacant, because the existing PCC skills center operates rent-free in part of a former district middle school on South Oak Knoll Avenue.
