LAKE VIEW TERRACE : Council OKs Funds to Expand Center

Share

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved spending $170,000 to acquire a 5.2-acre parcel to expand the Lake View Terrace Recreation Center.

Funding for the project will come from a trust fund set up three years ago to mitigate the impact of the city-owned Lopez Canyon Landfill on surrounding communities, including Lake View Terrace.

Councilman Ernani Bernardi, who represents the area, wrote the proposal to fund the recreation center project with the Lopez Canyon money. The new property may be used for equestrian-related uses.

Previously, the council had approved spending $750,000 to add a community room to the center and $30,000 for day care for schoolchildren at the facility. The funding for these projects also came from the Lopez Canyon fund.
