Platinum Software Profits Up: Platinum Software Corp., an Irvine software firm, reported that profit for its latest fiscal quarter was $674,000, or 10 cents a share. That compared to earnings of $610,000, or 11 cents a share, for the corresponding period a year earlier, when the company posted a gain of $966,000 from the termination of a sales and distribution agreement with International Business Machines Corp. Revenue for the company’s second fiscal quarter, which ended Dec. 31, more than doubled to $7.6 million from $3.2 million a year earlier. For the first half, profit rose 39% to $937,000, or 15 cents a share, from $674,000, or 12 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Six-month revenue rose to $13.5 million from $6.2 million.
