Hawaiian Airlines Cutting Back: Hawaiian Airlines says it will eliminate 70 jobs and reduce its inter-island flight schedule by 25%. Hawaiian will cut the number of inter-island flights to between 135 and 140 from 178 a day beginning Tuesday, Chairman John Ueberroth said. The moves are needed to bring a sense of balance back to the inter-island market, he added, saying there are too many inter-island flights and not enough people flying on them. He said Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines have tried to outdo each other by scheduling more flights and cutting prices last year. Ueberroth didn’t say where the job cuts would come from in the company’s 2,500-person work force.
