AFRAID TO LOOK: Maxine Richards in Seal Beach braved her way to her local drugstore Monday to buy buckets and towels to mop up her home. For Richards and thousands like her, the storms turned Monday into less of a holiday and more of a cleanup day. (B1) But it also tested nerves. . . . “I thought it was going to stop Sunday night,” Richards says. “I couldn’t sleep at all with all that rain. I was afraid to get out of bed and see what my house looked like.”
