Consolidation: Hughes Aircraft Co.’s Industrial Electronics unit said it has moved its Rancho Santa Margarita division to Carlsbad and renamed the unit Hughes Technology Products Division.
In the consolidation, announced a year ago, the two divisions have gone from a total of 900 employees to about 600 now at the Carlsbad division.
The Rancho Santa Margarita division employed about 475 people, about the same number as the Carlsbad unit, before the consolidation. The Carlsbad division makes soldering and welding tools, as well as military communications equipment, security devices and stereo equipment.
