Baird’s Hiring of Immigrants

I could not believe your editorial endorsement of Baird on the grounds that she admitted breaking the law and paid her fine and that breaking the law was all right anyway because good help was not available. She only admitted to her crime because she wanted something better--to be attorney general. For a person to be the attorney general who has the attitude that laws that interfere with what you want to do can be broken is absolutely outrageous!

Jobs at decent wages for people doing household work or working as nannies will not be available until market forces have an opportunity to force people to pay appropriate wages for domestic help. That will not happen until rich people are stopped from the illegal hiring of immigrant aliens. Being a California newspaper, you should understand that issue!

Child-care facilities for all working families would have a better chance of being built and run by small businesses if hiring illegal aliens were stopped.
