Thelma Lillard, the mother of Oregon State basketball player Ernest Killum Jr., who died a year ago, filed suit in Los Angeles against the university, a Portland hospital and the state of Oregon for wrongful death and negligence.
In a lawsuit reminiscent of those filed after the death of Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers, Lillard claims her basketball-playing son’s death at age 20 was hastened by his participation in college sports.
