EEOC Finds Age Discrimination in Layoffs, Retirements: A federal agency found age discrimination in the layoffs of about 700 McDonnell Douglas Corp. workers, a newspaper reported. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said its investigation found “a pattern of discrimination” from July, 1990, until May, 1991, against older workers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said. The workers were among 10,000 employees laid off during that time by McDonnell Douglas, the nation’s largest military contractor. The agency found that McDonnell broke federal anti-discrimination law by intentionally laying off workers 55 or older, said Lynn Bruner, district EEOC director. The company previously has denied any discrimination in the cutbacks. The Post-Dispatch said spokeswoman Barbara Anderson on Friday declined to comment on Bruner’s letter.
