London-Taipei Air Service Scheduled: British Airways and a Taiwanese airline, EVA, will begin flying between London and Taipei after more than a year of delicate talks between Britain and China, which claims Taiwan as a province. The deal will make travel simpler for passengers who previously had to change airlines in different cities because no direct service was available. To avoid angering the mainland Chinese, the deal calls for the two carriers’ planes not to bear any flag or insignia with an official connotation, according to Lord Caithness, Britain’s minister of state for aviation and shipping. British Airways will begin direct flights to Taipei in March through a wholly owned subsidiary, British Asia Airways.
