Car, Truck Sales up 15% in Mid-January: Sales of North American-made cars rose 4.2% in the Jan. 11-20 period to 136,462, while light truck sales jumped 32.6% to 105,730. The daily selling rate for all vehicles was up 15% in the period, which had nine sales days, compared to eight in the year-earlier period. Among individual auto makers, Ford sales were up 15.5% from the year-earlier period; GM was up 6.6%, and Chrysler sales rose an estimated 34%. Chrysler reports only full-month sales.
