Clinton’s Inauguration

At first I was relieved to read (Jan. 17) that the $25-million tab for the inaugural ceremony would be “financed by private and corporate donations”--not our tax dollars. However, after a moment’s reflection I was disgusted with my own naivete. Who was I kidding! Haven’t I learned business rule No. 1: There is no such thing as a free lunch. I have no doubt these “generous” private and corporate donors are well aware of this rule and rule No. 2: You get what you pay for. Also, I have no doubt the public will repay these donors a hundredfold in tax breaks and favors. We should have popped for the 25 mil! Hopefully, Clinton’s promised campaign finance reform will make such “contributions” illegal.
