LOS ANGELES : Woman Gets 2-Year Term in Case of Scalded Child

A day-care center operator was sentenced Monday to two years in prison on a child-abuse charge that stemmed from her husband placing a 2-year-old girl in scalding water.
Superior Court Judge Roosevelt Dorn could have sentenced Kathryn Rodgers, 36, to six years in prison but imposed the minimum sentence because she “was remorseful for what she has done” and because her husband was the one who plunged the child into hot water.
Rodgers, who cried as she was sentenced, had been charged with child abuse because she allowed the girl’s injuries to go untreated for more than two hours.
Last month, Lemuel Rodgers was sentenced to seven years in prison for placing Kristen Williams in 130-degree water and holding her there for soiling her pants. The girl, who nearly died, suffered second- and third-degree burns over almost half her body. She spent almost two months in intensive care, underwent 16 operations and had three toes amputated.
