Claremont : More Light for Soccer Teams

The City Council voted to extend lighting hours at La Puerta Sports Park during March for youth soccer practice.

Through March, park lights will be on from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Residents near the park have complained over the years that the park attracts vandalism to the neighborhood and that the lighting spills into their homes.

On Saturday, soccer teams planted 50 trees along the park boundary.

The council also directed staff to research the cost of new sports lighting that would reduce or eliminate light spillage.
