PLATFORM : All Must Sacrifice

Share
CATHY TRUJILLO, a single working mother in Huntington Beach, commented on President Clinton's inaugural address in which he called for all Americans to sacrifice for their country. She told The Times:

Like troubled times in the past, we need all Americans to lend a hand and sacrifice something to get our country back on its feet. But, Mr. President, there are a lot of Americans who have been sacrificing through the two presidents before you, and we’re just wondering when everybody will be willing to sacrifice.

I was thrust into the job of mother and provider after my husband left me. In my spare time I went to school and got a degree. We suffered, but we kept on going despite the obstacles. And even though our sacrifices had more to do with our economic condition, I learned that if you want to get where you’re going, then sacrifice is more often the rule of the game.

Now our heads are just above the water. My son and I are thankful to all those people who helped us on our way. Now our President is asking us to sacrifice again. Can I do it? Yes I can. But all I’m asking is that everybody come to arms. I’ll be the first to tell you it can be done.
