HEALTHY STUDENTS? Since the governor declared this School Nurse Week, the Santa Ana Unified School District looked up a few facts about its nurses: They conducted more than 40,000 hearing screenings and health appraisals the past year. They referred more than 10,000 students for follow-up health care. Says district spokeswoman Diane Thomas: “For many of our children, the school nurse visit is the only health care they receive.”
