Micom Gets Largest Order for Marathon, NetRunner

Micom Communications Corp. of Simi Valley has received the largest single order yet for its Marathon and NetRunner data/voice integration products, which allow multisite businesses to save money by communicating on leased telephone lines.

The order calls for Micom to deliver $1.1 million worth of products to Island Finance of Puerto Rico.

Richard S. Borden, Micom’s marketing communications manager, said Island Finance will use more than 200 of the units to make phone calls, fax documents and transmit computer data to its offices throughout Puerto Rico.

More than 15,000 of the units have been shipped since they were introduced in early 1991, Borden said. He added that the system’s success has enabled Micom to increase its payroll 10% in the past year to 320.

Micom is a subsidiary of MB Communications Inc., a Pittsburgh firm whose shares are listed on NASDAQ.
