Red Ink: San Francisco Opera officials confirmed Tuesday that the company ended its fiscal year Jan. 31 with an accumulated deficit of $6 million. However, plans for a Richard Strauss Festival this summer, as well as for the 1993 fall season in War Memorial Opera House, are not being curtailed. The company is observing “all possible economies” to reduce the deficit, said managing director Adrian Trickey. The administrative staff has been reduced from 84 to 76, with no pay raises, and all non-union negotiations “will go forward in the light of our present situation,” he said. The 1992 deficit is $4 million, and the previous accumulated deficit was close to $2 million.
