Harry Thomashefsky; Star, Director of U.S. Yiddish Theater

Harry Thomashefsky, 97, last surviving member of the family that founded the Yiddish Theater in the United States. Thomashefsky was the eldest son of Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky and became a star in his own right, performing at the age of 13 in the play “The Pintele Yid.” He later became a director of the Federal Theater’s Yiddish Theater Project. His brother, Theodore, known professionally as Teddy Thomas and the father of conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, died last year at 88. On Jan. 28 in Los Angeles.
