While most of the fleet went outside Santa Catalina Island on the first day of Del Rey Yacht Club’s race from Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta, the inside course paid off with evening offshore breezes for Blake Quinn’s Holua from Monterey Peninsula YC and Fred Kirschner’s Kathmandu from Coronado YC.
The two Santa Cruz 70s found evening offshore breezes and were running 1-2 after the first day, although having sailed only about 100 miles.
