WHO’S HIRING: Don’t look to banks, insurance companies, defense contractors or real estate for that new executive job. Who is hiring? Technology companies such as computer manufacturers; hospitals and HMOs, and, in general, smaller entrepreneurial companies, says Elliot Gordon, a Newport Beach headhunter. . . . If you do get hired, don’t expect the 10% annual executive raises that typified the 1980s. These days, pay is likely to go up only half that much. “Job security,” says Gordon, “has surpassed the desire for a few more dollars.”
