Home Ties: Actor James Earl Jones will be in his home state today to accept the University of Mississippi’s annual Award of Distinction. “My Mississippi status is almost voluntary,” Jones notes. “I left the state when I was 4 1/2, but it is the place of my nativity. I would in no way forsake it.” Jones is one of five people receiving the honor for outstanding black Mississippians.
